Please visit the Shirokiya Village Walk now through Sunday, January 12, 2020 to enjoy the wonderful display of all of the talented students' artwork.  The exhibit can be found next to the shrine area, opposite corner from the bathrooms.  
]]><![CDATA[Nengajo Contest Winners are...]]>Sun, 08 Dec 2019 23:30:05 GMThttps://hatj.weebly.com/nengajo-contests/nengajo-contest-winners-areThank you all for those who participated in this year's Nengajo Contest!  We had total of 1,240 participants from the elementary school to the high school level for this year's contest.
There were few numbers of cards that arrived on time this year, but had so many excellent cards that the judges had a hart time deciding on the top 3 winners for each category.

We also had a help from the professional this year.  Kazuo Maekawa, a professional manga artist from Japan came to give his expertise!   We have 3 cards that received the first Kazuo Maekawa Award as the honorable mention.

All of the Nengajo cards of the winners and the non-winners that represented each school will be on display at the Shirokiya Village Walk sometime at the end of December for about 10 days.  We will keep you posted when we have more details.

Thank you to all of the Japanese teachers who continue to teach this great tradition of Japan to your students.  We hope to see you next year's Nengajo Contest!  2021 is the Year of Ox 丑年（うしどし）.

]]><![CDATA[Nengajo contest for year of rat!]]>Sun, 13 Oct 2019 21:54:21 GMThttps://hatj.weebly.com/nengajo-contests/nengajo-contest-for-year-of-ratGuess what? 　It's time to start planning for the Nengajo Contest.  The year 2020 is the year of rat, Nezumi-doshi.  Happy early birth-year to you all who were born in the zodiac sign years whether you are 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 or older, we hope it will be another year of many blessings and good health.

Please read through the slides (Click HERE) to see the details of this year's contest.  We encourage you to show the slides (especially the last few slides with sample cards) to your students as you go over how to create the actual post cards.

The display (as pictured) will be there until Sunday, January 6, 2019.  Invite your family and friends and see the wonderful works done by our students!   The exhibit is on top of the stage in the center area of the Shirokiya Village Walk at the Ala Moana Center. 

​*Be mindful that the display will be put on the side when there are performances on the stage (mostly on Saturdays and Sundays).
]]><![CDATA[update - 2019 Nengajo contest at Shirokiya Village Walk]]>Fri, 28 Dec 2018 02:16:08 GMThttps://hatj.weebly.com/nengajo-contests/update-2019-nengajo-contest-at-shirokiya-village-walkAs posted earlier, all Nengajo postcards from 2019 Nengajo Contest (including winners & non-winners) will be on display on the center stage at the Shirokiya Village Walk at Ala Moana Center starting Sunday, December 30, 2018.  

Junko Agena sensei from Aina Haina Elementary School will present our display to kick off at around 10:45am with some of her students.  The stage will be used for various performances after 11:30am until 5pm that day, so the Nengajo display won't be back until after such performances are done.

The display will be brought back on the stage until Sunday, January 6, 2019, between any performances on stage, so beware of some schedule conflict, especially on the weekends.
