Hello everyone,
We had a small event for students to experience Japanese culture at Kapiolani Community College on November 14 as part of the International Education Week. Students taking JPNS 290 (mostly international students from Japan) prepared and conducted several activities for other students to participate in at the cafeteria, including the Kendama Challenge, Japan Quiz, and Illustration Contest on Japanese anime and manga characters.
In addition, JPNS 102 students and their class tutors sang the Japanese song “Nada Sou Sou” together at the stage in the cafeteria. Then, after a group of Japanese students sang two Japanese songs, JPNS 102 students and other participants learned and participated in the traditional dance from Tokunoshima called “Waido Bushi.” Iroha Mochida, a JPNS 290 student from Tokunoshima, Japan, played the sanshin and sang the song. The event created a fun and interesting opportunity for local students to interact with and learn from students from Japan.

こんにちは。カピオラニコミュニティカレッジでは、International Education Week中の11月14日に、日本文化に触れるささやかなイベントを行いました。JPNS 290の学生たち(主に日本からの留学生たち)が、カフェテリアで、「けん玉チャレンジ」、「日本クイズ」、日本のアニメや漫画のキャラクターを使った「イラストコンテスト」を行い、KCCの学生たちが参加しました。
また、カフェテリアに設けられたステージで、JPNS 102の学生たちと、そのクラスのチューターであるJPNS 290の学生たちが、一緒に「涙そうそう」を歌いました。その後、JPNS 290のグループが、「海の声」など日本の歌を二曲歌った後、徳之島から来ている学生、餅田彩葉さんの歌と三線の演奏に合わせて、みんなで徳之島の民謡「ワイド節」を踊りました。KCCの学生たちにとって、日本からの学生たちと交流し、日本文化を学ぶ楽しい機会になったようです。
