We are excited to announce 2017-18 HATJ Annual Nengajo Contest is now open! Please read carefully and send in your application on time. This year's deadline is December 15, 2017 (must be delivered by this date).
Please open this slides to see the purpose and the goals of the contest, read do's and don'ts for the Nengajo cards. Also, starting this year's contest, teachers must have full membership BEFORE the beginning of the school year, mostly by the beginning of August. If the teacher's name is not listed in the membership update in September, 2017, we will not accept your entries.
Last year, we were able to display all of the Nengajo postcards at the Kahala Mall ( ← click to see last year's exhibit). This year, ALL Nengajo cards will be on display at the Royal Hawaiian Center (RHC) in Waikiki during the new year season starting December 31, 2017 through the first week of January in the center court area of the center.
There will be a separate contest with the Japanese visitors’ casting their own votes on site to select the special award winners (top 4 winners will receive a $25 gift certificate from RHC).
To avoid getting your students’ Nengajo being damaged by the weather elements, we ask each entry be laminated in advance to qualify for this year’s Nengajo Contest. Please adhere to this special rule in order to qualify for the contest.
We expect that our Nengajo Contest will be featured by the local and international media during RHC’s Fukubukuro Festival on January 1, 2018 at the center court. Please encourage your students and their family to pay a visit during the event.
Because of this special exhibit, we are asking ALL Nengajo Postcards to be doubled (2 unruled 4x6 index cards to be glued or taped together) and labels to be typed, instead of hand-written. Please read Slide 6 in the slideshow carefully and follow what it says in the slide to avoid getting disqualified.
