Japanese Cultural Center's Fall Festival: Nov. 9 The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH) is seeking participants for Aki Matsuri (Fall Festival), which will be held on Sunday, November 9.This year we will be focusing on Aki Matsuri: Celebrating Children and Culture. This event combines Shichi Go San and Bunka no Hi into one event. Local high school Japanese language students and clubs can have their own booths at the event. Each school is asked to feature a cultural art or craft and provide information it. Also, they encourage booths to feature hands-on activity. Applications are open for Japanese Government Scholarships available for international students to pursue undergraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities and Natural Sciences at Japanese universities. Scholarship awards will be tenable for five years from April 2015 to March 2020, including one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects due to be provided upon arrival in Japan. For scholarship grantees majoring in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or a six-year course in pharmacy, the term of scholarship will be seven years until March 2022. The deadline of the applications differs according to the country. Please contact with Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country. Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing undergraduate degree at Japanese universities. Scholarship Provider: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Scholarship Description: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2015. Selection Criteria: In cooperation with the governments of the applicants’ countries the Japanese diplomatic mission will conduct primary screening of applicants by means of submitted application documents, interviews and academic examinations. How to Apply: Applicants must submit the following documents to the Japanese diplomatic mission by the required date. The submitted documents will not be returned.
Starting this summer, University of Hawaii at Mānoa (Manoa campus only) will award AP Japanese credits as follows: Score 4: 8 credits (for JPN201, 202, with placement in JPN 301) Score 5: 12 credits (for JPN 201, 202, and 301, with placement in JPN 302) Students who have been awarded AP credits may also earn further back credits for 100-level courses by completing an appropriate higher-level language course at UH-Mānoa with a grade of C or better. For example, a student who scored a “5” on the AP exam will receive 12 credits for JPN 201, 202, and 301. If this student also completes JPN 302, s/he will get an additional 8 back-credits for JPN 101 and 102.
