HATJ Mission Statement
The Hawaii Association of Teachers of Japanese is a non-profit professional organization devoted to the education of Japanese language and culture for K-16 and life. Our mission is to encourage, support, share, advocate the teaching and education of Japanese language and culture through all levels of instruction in the state of Hawaii, and to cultivate and promote a cooperative spirit through the exchange of ideas and fellowship among its members as well as with the community and beyond. |

By joining HATJ (AATJ - national level), you will be able to participate in various activities including Nengajo content, National Japanese Honor Society, etc.
- Advocacy
We, as Japanese language teachers, are obligated to advocate the education of our language and culture to the students, the community and beyond. Help us by joining the association and be a member of the team!
- Jobs
From time to time, job openings will be posted on the web or sent out via emails. Be sure to join us if you are interested in becoming a 21st century educator in Japanese language and culture!

- Support and create professional-development opportunities for Japanese-language teachers.
- Advocate on behalf of the infusion and support of Japanese-language studies at all educational levels.
- Disseminate information on external funding opportunities, resources, programs, research, and curricula in Japanese-language studies.
- Publish newsletters and/or website with news of interest to Japanese-language teachers--e.g., news of upcoming events, special awards, and professional-development opportunities.
- Sponsor events to support Japanese language studies--e.g., the annual Nengajou contest.
